High Life

HIGH LIFE 43 In his recent exhibition, Fok created a body of work called the 2047 series , using a pen to draw his own vision of the 50th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover back to China. Maintaining his ancient map style, the series transfers his skills from fine paper to wood and leather as well, chronicling the evolution of cities following the Age of Exploration as well as post colonialism and the impact of migration on Hong Kong and Macau society. Fok tells High Life that he has recently read Geographies of Post- Colonialism , which answers a lot of the questions he had while building his own artistic identity. Similarly, his reading on sociology, humanity, history and society have all been reflected in his exhibited works. “Now that Macau is developing so fast, I see the many social problems being created at the same time but feel unable to change them, although I can’t escape them either,” he says. “So I decided to dig into the city’s past and those who once existed, while also observing the history and experience of other cities, hoping I can get some comfort and find some answers.” 作品标题 2047.3
