High Life
F ounded in 1983 by the late Áureo da Costa Nunes e Castro as the Macao Chamber Orchestra, Macao Orchestra was established in its current form in 2003. Macao Orchestra is a microcosm of the eponymous city, where European and Asian cultures merge with each other and fuse into one. Over the decades, western musicians have been pivotal in the development of the Macao Orchestra, thereby enriching the cultural life of the city. None better exemplify these qualities than Marko Klug, cellist with Macao Orchestra since 2015. Cordial and gentlemanly, Marko Klug is himself a fusion of divergent cultures. Born to a Spanish father and an Austrian mother, he grew up in Spain, studied and trained in Germany and the US and has played in various ensembles in Europe and North America. His “Damascene moment” of musical calling came very early.
