They think in their own manner and come up with their own ideas, whereas we respect tradition a lot more,” said Sabrina Ho’s mother Angela Leong during a recent event. Indeed, Sabrina is a young and unique entrepreneur unlike any other. From the informal and edgy way she dresses to the concept she came up with to help the artistic youth of Macau, everything she touches reflects creativity and audacity. InAsian society, there is a strong Confucian influence on the way individuals respect age and hierarchy. Therefore, it is some- times difficult for the young generation to stand out because no matter how talented, they are almost always regarded as “imma- ture” or “not experienced enough.” There is even a Chinese prov- erb that says, “An oldman’s advice is seldomuntrue.” In Europe and especially the US, young people are encour- aged to be innovative, speak their mind and change the world. With the help of new technology and the impact of globaliza- tion in the 21st century, young people are absorbing knowledge in a rapid manner because information is readily accessible. Just because someone is older, it does not mean that he or she must therefore be more capable. Age is just a number and being older only indicates that someone has been around longer.
