Packed with vitamins A, B, D, E, oleic acid, Omega 3, 6 and 9, it nourishes and hydrates the skin while providing antioxidant benefits, which aids to prevent wrinkles and oxidative stress from polluted environments. Easily absorbed, it is light in texture and does not leave a greasy film on the skin. The ritual: As the first step of the skincare process, geishas use the oil to remove make-up and cleanse the face. This can be achieved through soaking a cotton pad in a small amount of rose water, putting two to three drops of tsubaki oil on top and gently wiping the face. Make-up will be removed effortlessly with this gesture and the skin will be purified, hydrated and soft. Next, a luxurious and nourishing serum can be made mixing a preparation of finely crushed pearls with tsubaki oil. In addition to its antioxidant properties, pearl powder contains numerous types of amino acids, polysaccharides and essential minerals. Together with tsubaki oil, it provides exquisite nourishment, protects the skin and can be applied anywhere on the face and body. To keep hair dark, silky and shiny, geishas put several drops of tsubaki oil on the palm of their hands and fingers and run them through the hair, paying particular attention to the ends. Then the hair is scented with the aroma of incense. For those of us who do not have the time to slowly let the scent of incense penetrate into the strands, infusing a small amount of essential oil or absolute such as geranium, jasmine or vanilla into the tsubaki oil can also enhance the aromatic haircare experience.
