HIGH LIFE #14 Nov 2017 37 “The clients will choose the materials they want based on the existing models,” Mr Dauchez says. “They can choose any type of leather, lining and thread color, they can mix colors and leather on the same bag and even personalize it by adding their initials or modifying some part to meet their own size. The idea is to make sure each bag is unique and matches the personality of the owner. “As soon as we start making the bag we contact the client and invite them to come and see their own creation in the making. That way they can see the complexity and what makes the bag such a luxury item. “At the end, when they pick up their bag, they already have a historywith the final product. It’s something verydifferent, like its own baby. It’s really a nice experience and something unique.” This concept of the high-end luxury brand utilizing a workshop open to clients doesn’t exit anywhere else. And although it was developed in France, Mr Dauchez chose Hong Kong as D’AUCHEL’s first stop. “The idea is to show the world French quality and craftsmanship and Hong Kong is a good place for that,” he offers. “There are many potential clients for these types of bag because they are of the highest possible quality. “The city is also a choice of heart. I’ve known Hong Kong very well since 1996 and used to live between here and Paris for many years, so it’s an obvious choice for me.” With Hong Kong laying the groundwork, D’AUCHEL will look to open its next atelier in Pariswith long-termexpansion plans including Macau, New York, Dubai and Tokyo.
