PLAY 完 成于1898年的《英雄生涯》， 是理查德• 施特劳斯所创作十 首交响诗中的第八首，亦是最备受推崇 的一首。作品本来题献给荷兰指挥家威 廉• 门德尔伯格与阿姆斯特丹音乐厅 管弦乐团，后于1899年由法兰克福歌 剧院及博物馆管弦乐团首演，并由理查 德• 施特劳斯亲自指挥。 理查德•施特劳斯（1867至1948 年）生于慕尼黑，卒于加尔米施- 帕滕 基兴。他经历了德意志历史上最动荡不 安的岁月，一生横跨巴伐利亚王国、德 意志帝国、魏玛共和国、第三帝国乃至 西德等合共五个时代。其父弗朗茨• 施 特劳斯为巴伐利亚王室歌剧院法国号首 席，音乐立场属传统保守。在父亲的启 蒙教育下，理查德• 施特劳斯成为音乐 神童，年仅六岁时已创作了个人第一份 作品。如果说《莎乐美，第54号作品》 和《玫瑰骑士，第59号作品》是其歌剧 的巅峰之作，《查拉图斯特拉如是说， 第30号作品》和《英雄生涯》则可谓其 管弦乐的不朽杰作。 交响诗亦称音诗，其辞源可追溯至 1828年，后来由弗朗茨• 李斯特发扬 C ompleted in 1898, Ein Heldenleben is the eighth and arguably most revered of Richard Strauss’s 10 tone poems. Originally dedicated to the Dutch conductor Willem Mengelberg and Concertgebouw Orchestra, the piece was premiered in 1899 by the Frankfurt Opera House and Museum’s Orchestra, under the baton of the composer-conductor himself. Born in Munich, Strauss (1864-1949) lived through the most turbulent period of Germanic history spanning five eras from the Kingdom of Bavaria, German Empire, Weimar Republic and Third Reich to West Germany. Educated by his musically conservative father Franz Strauss, principal hornist at Bavarian Court Opera, Strauss was a child prodigy who completed his first composition at the tender age of six. If Salome, Op. 54 and Der Rosenkavalier, Op. 59 are his operatic pièces de résistance, Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 and Ein Heldenleben would be his orchestral tours de force.
