Since it was founded in North London almost a century ago, Bentley has built a reputation around mechanical monsters – creating the biggest, heaviest and most imposing vehicles in their class. Bentley’s collaboration with the legendary German manufacturer has led to a number of surprises, not least of which is the use of the Porsche Panamera base – the first time ever Porsche has shared a chassis with another brand. As a result, the Continental GT is longer and lower with the front wheels 135mm further forward than on previous models, which in turn allows the bonnet to be extended and the nose to be lowered. Combined with the use of new lightweight materials, Bentley has managed to shed 80kg from the finished product. No wonder the company is calling its latest inspiration the best yet, with Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer stating, “The new, third-generation Continental GT is the pinnacle of our design and engineering achievements andmarks the next step in Bentley’s journey.
