18 品 From the editor Resting the mind W ith modern technological tools, it is very easy for us to be connected with people around the world. However, the downside is that we are constantly bombarded by emails and messages on our smartphones. Just a few minutes spent away from their device leaves many people with a sense of anxiety. Having been born in the last centurywhen the internet was only in its infancy, I still remember a timewhen I would write letters to my friends and mail them using stamps bought at the post office. For weeks on end I would wait for them to reply with great anticipation and finally the sweet moment would come when I would see the postman arrive with envelopes frommy friends living overseas. Decades ago, it seemed like timewas passing at a slower pace and human beings were patient. In the 21st century, however, our addiction to instant connectivity has caused us to be restless. Our minds are constantly running wild. Sometimes we don’t know how to unwind and let things go. Endless frustrations lead to insomnia or worse: mental health issues. Perhaps the most suitable way to relax is to pick up a printed magazine or book to read. Some people consider printed content to be old-fashioned, but appreciating materials contained in a book or magazine that is carefully curated is always a better experience than letting the mind roamfreely on theWorldWideWeb.
