High Life

From the editor Riding the waves of life I n June, we lost one of the most influential and beloved personalities in the culinary world, Anthony Bourdain. As someone who loves to eat and travel, I became a fan of Bourdain during the “No Reservations” days. Blunt and audacious, he was a breath of fresh air in the world of television where individuals are often pretentious and work for their own interest. Bourdain traveled to some of the most remote and dangerous places on the planet and showed that through sharing food and casual discussion we can learn a lot about others and discover elements we have in common with them. With an open mind and an open heart, he never turned down the many exotic dishes offered to him because he knew that the only way to discover another culture was to demonstrate respect and sincerity. Although he is no longer with us, he has definitely changed the way we look at many foreign countries and the possibilities that the world has to offer. We only live once, so we might as well experience life with no reservations. As Bourdain wrote in one of his books, “Your body is not a temple, it’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.”
