High Life Issue #4
HIGH LIFE #4 January 2017 31 Beaujolais nouveau is made from the Gamay noir à Jus blanc grape, better known simply as Gamay . The grapes must come from the Beaujolais AOC, with those of the ten “cru” appellations excluded. The tradition started after the SecondWorldWar as a way to celebrate life and peace. Every year, on the third Thursday of November, the wine –which is fermented for just a fewweeks before being released – is offered to neighbors and friends to commemorate the end of the season. Although the Beaujolais Nouveau is considered to be a low quality wine, the day gained a cultural status and amateurs and connoisseurs alike can be seen enjoying a full glass of this young red wine while conversation flows. Guests who attended the event in Macau – one of many held around the world – were pleasantly surprised. The lower temperatures of November, together with magnificent views of the “Old Macau” made the evening quite special.
