Just steps away fromA-MaTemple, someone is playing a recording of Billie Holiday. Curious and fascinated, I walk around the area, only to discover that the sound comes from a small eatery. A vintage looking bicycle is parked outside. Through a red window, I can see someone cooking. Inside, a rusty, wooden table runs across the space. Next to the simple, open kitchen, a turntable sits next to a cozy couch. Owner and chef, Meng Wong, takes his time to make coffee at the counter. A collector of small Buddhist statues and vinyl records, he named his restaurant Chakra.
