HIGH LIFE #4 January 2017 97 I n a digital world where everyone shares photos of themselves on social media, we often see people taking selfies. The act is no longer a phenomenon; in the 21st century it has become part of our daily lives. However, there are a select group who still appreciate the beauty of a bygone era, when movie stars would book into their favorite photo studio to have their portraits taken by a skilled photographer. Known as one of the most prestigious portrait studios in the world, Studio Harcourt was established in 1934. It was named after Cosette Harcourt, a lady who studied photography at the Studios Manuel Frères in Paris. She started the business with Jacques and Jean Lacroix, a pair of brothers who owned numerous press publications and founded the advertising agency Pro-Publicité, together with Nina Ricci’s son, Robert.
