High Life Issue #5
品 94 #5 2017 年 2 月 Although the entire cast is filled with talent – especially young Carmen, played by Carol Lin and also Alok Kumar, who lent a tragic element to José’s role – the true surprise of the evening is Colette Lam in the role of Micaëla. The soprano enchants and touches with her two solos. More than a great voice, Lam feels Micaëla’s pain while she searches for José high up in the mountains. The audience suffers with her as she realizes her love is lost forever. Every interpretationof Carmen is different, as the original Libretto suffered several changes after the original Bizet piece. It is always a delight to find another strong and bold heroine on stage, always carrying avivid red dress. Lio Kiokman and Lo Kingman, the Producer and Director, achieves the impossible; bringing warm, Spanish ambience to a concert hall in Asia.
